Windsurf University

Windsurf already had sales enablement. What it didn't have was a way for customers to learn the product themselves.

This wasn’t a marketing project, and it wasn’t an engineering project. It was a new muscle: turning the people closest to the product into the people who could teach it.

Windsurf already had sales enablement. What it didn't have was a way for customers to learn the product themselves.

Enterprise accounts spanned people with wildly different experience levels, from someone who’d never installed Windsurf to a developer ready for full end-to-end development. There was no evergreen, self-serve way for them to learn the product on their own, and we were starting to outgrow our existing content processes.

Challenge

Educate a wide range of customers on a technical product that never stopped changing.

I had to build Windsurf University in about a month, a course that could take someone from a beginner to a power user, while staying flexible enough to keep pace with a product changing faster than most training content could track.

Solution

More capacity, a system the engineers helped design, and a coaching philosophy built on being yourself.

I was leading a small team of creative people, and Windsurf University meant we needed more capacity to do more. Converting a storage room into a second studio was a creative answer to that, letting us run two shoots at once instead of waiting on one room. With two studios running, I helped produce across both, scheduling and figuring out who shot where, while leading one production myself. Working with the deploy engineering team, we agreed on the format: video for evergreen concepts, text for details that change fast. Getting engineers comfortable on camera for the first time is genuinely hard. It’s a skill I’d already built over time, and this project put it to the real test.

Result

Shipped in a month, and the confidence it built didn't stop at Windsurf University.

We shipped 19 video tutorials in the first iteration. It launched on windsurf.com and YouTube, giving sales real material for enterprise customers. Training material for a product shipping every few weeks doesn’t come with an existing playbook, so I built a course and a new system to manage it. The part that lasted came from the people: every deploy engineer got comfortable on camera fast, then kept showing up in videos afterward to explain technical concepts. The course was the deliverable. The confidence stayed.
